Possible career paths for Advanced Level Subjects (Series) Combination in Cameroon

After choosing a series and studying so hard to pass the GCE Advanced Level what next? This is the second stage of your life to make another important decision.

Many who have passed through this stage would testify how difficult it was to make a decision on which program to go in for with little knowledge. You can imagine how that feels.

A majority of university students would equally bear me witness when I say many wished they had a proper orientation before engaging in any program. The worst kind of feeling is when you ask for career orientation from someone who does not have an idea at all. You might end up reading something unnecessary in the job market.

Well, do not get me wrong. Any program one reads is important but some are more important than others. No matter how bitter it might sound, it is the truth.

As earlier mentioned, this is the second crucial decision to make as far as your career is concerned. Are you wondering what the first is? Well, the first is choosing a series combination at the GCE Advanced Level. It is from this point that you choose which road to continue to your destination.

Bear in mind that the University has some specific requirements that everyone must attain before being admitted to reading some programs at the university. For instance, the general requirement to gain admission into the University of Buea is presenting prove of having a pass in GCE Ordinary Level English Language.

Do not panic if otherwise, there is still hope for you. It is said, “When there is life, there is hope”. Trust me when I say you have not reached the end of the tunnel. If you do not have Ordinary level English, you can take an English Proficiency Exam to gain admission.  Make sure you give in your best.

Another essential point to note is that to be admitted into certain departments to read any program of your choice requires one to present a pass in GCE Ordinary Level Mathematics. This includes programs like banking and finance, management, accounting, economics, marketing, entrepreneurship, etc.

Failing to meet this requirement has led many into reading what they do not like. Probably some students are not aware of this. Maybe they might have been more serious with math classes. Those who intend to pursue a career in the above-mentioned fields should take mathematics lessons seriously, “To be forewarned is to be forearmed”.

Let’s discuss the programs one can read with the various GCE Advanced Level Subject combinations.

Concluding Remark

Your career is like your first husband or wife. If you get married to the wrong person, well, you know the rest of the story and likewise. Think before choosing any.

Before choosing any, ask this questions: Who can hire me, what can I do if I take this or that?

NOTA BENE:

Applicants to the College of Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine are obliged to take an Entrance Exam prior to admission.

While those going in for the following faculties do not have to take any entrance examination Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Laws and Political Science, Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences

The interesting part of this is the fact that applicants can apply for both depending on their interests. This is more advantageous because it increases the chances of you being admitted into the University.

Thanks for your time. In case, you have any doubts ask in the comment section and if you like what you have just read comment to have more.
