# 1. CAE Oxford Aviation Academy

CAE OxfordAviation Academy formerly known as Sabena flight Academy, Africa (SFA-A) should be the first that comes to mind when talking of aviation schools in Cameroon.

Established in the year 2008, CAE Oxford Aviation Academy is located in monthe paul, 359, Rue, Douala and Joseph Barla and Jean-Yves Kotto are the founding fathers. Sabena Flight Academy Africa is owned by Cameroonians who work in partnership with the old Belgian school Sabena Flight Academy created in 1953.

The old Belgian school Sabena Flight Academy is now called CAE Oxford Aviation Academy Brussels, owned by Canadian group CAE, the world's leading provider of flight simulation solutions.

The institution was the first civil aviation university in Cameroon. The institute provides training for airline pilots, Flight attendants and flight dispatchers. The institution offers training programs in the pilot, Cabin crew, flight preparation and dispatch as well as other training.

Training Programs

Pilot

This program is divided into two: integrated ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License) and Modular theoretical ATPL (A) course

A. Integrated ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) 

AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT / INTEGRATED AB-INITIO TRAINING

This training is aimed at preparing the ab initio student for the theoretical knowledge required for the Airline Transport Pilot license and how to operate a multi-engine aircraft in IFR as a professional pilot for an airline.

1. Theoretical training

  • It is officially approved by Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority
  • Based on the 14 subjects of the ATPL program
  •  Basic flight course on FNPT

2. Flight training

Total of 220-240 flight hours on:

  • Diamond DA 40 Glass Cockpit aircraft
  • Diamond DA 42 Glass Cockpit aircraft
  • DA 42 FNPT II

3. MCC ( optional)

  • 28 hours of theoretical training
  • 20 hours of flight on A320/ B 737 NG simulator

Training duration and location

TOTAL: 22-24 months:

  • theoretical training: 9 -10 months Douala
  • Practical training 10 months out of Cameroon
  • MCC 1 month
  • Holidays and assistance with travel arrangements

B. MODULAR THEORETICAL ATPL (A) COURSE

The training objective is to upgrade holders of the Commercial Pilot License to the theoretical knowledge level required for the ATPL ( A) license.

  • Holder of a CPL(A)/IR/ ME license
  •  ICAO level 4 in English

Cabin Crew

Cabin crew is sub-divided into two: Initial cabin crew course and pursur or chief cabin crew course.

A. INITIAL TRAINING OF CABIN PERSONNEL (PNC)

The goal of this training is to prepare the student for the state examination of the Safety and Rescue Certificate (CSS) and to prepare the student to carry out within an airline crew the missions relating to first aid, safety and security in the cabin.

B. PURSER OR CHIEF CABIN CREW COURSE

The goal of the training is to provide the student with the mandatory knowledge and the required managerial, pedagogic and psychological tools to supervise a team of flight attendants under the command of the captain for the realization of safe, efficient and pleasant flights.

2 years of exercise as a flight attendant

The objective is for trained students to assist flight deck crews by Collecting and analyzing meteorological information, collecting and analyzing aeronautical information, flight preparation including fuel, load and route planning, loading supervision, and flight watch.

  • Scientific A level
  • Pass an academic test (French/English/Maths/Physics)

Course duration

467 hours (5 months)

B. Load Master

Admission conditions

  • General secondary school level
  • Practice of English
  • An interview to check decision capacity and stress management

The second aviation school in Cameroon is the training school (EFO) of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA). It was established in march 2016 with the sole aim of offering aeronautical professionals quality training, recognized in the field of civil aviation safety and security.

The institute offers multiple Aviation Safety and Security training programs. CCAA aims to clean up the field of civil aviation by providing companies in the sector with well-trained personnel.

Its head office is located at Nsimalen International Airport in Yaounde, Cameroon. Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority offers above 95-course sessions and has 3 training centers: Yaounde, Douala and Garoua training centers. It works in partnership with IATA, JAATO and ENSPY.
